September 27, 2011
Meeting called to order at 7:10 pm

Jim Tsunis – Jefferson Meadows Project
This project is proposed for development on Route 112. It is proposed to be
Workforce Housing Units for affordable housing for families to stay on Long
Island. The proposal calls for eight buildings including bocce ball courts, Tennis,
Picnic Tables and a small ice cream parlor. A discussion ensued among the
members of the civic and a contingent from the community near the land to be
developed. Some members of the community were opposed to this project and
voiced their opinions. It was decided to have this group meet with Jim Tsunis and
discuss their concerns with him and try to come up with some form of

Samra Brouk- Recycle Bank at the Town of Brookhaven representative
The program began on August 3, 2011. Samra Brouk explained how the recycle
bank works. It is a program which rewards you for recycling. It encourages
people to recycle their refuse. To sign up for this program go to
Recyclebank.,com. When you sign up, you will automatically get 300 pts. Every
time you use the recycle bank, you get ten points. You can also call them if you
do not have a computer.
They have a program called Green Schools Program which will give a school
$2,500 to come up with a proposal for a Green Project. Businesses should firstname.lastname@example.org
Joan Nickeson – Beautification Committee
No new projects on tap. She then mentioned the garbage and debris which is on
the Taco Bell Property on Terryville Road. She asked that we call Taco Bell a6
928-7170 to report this garbage.
Call the Town about litter also at John Rouse’s Office: Waste Management 451-
9200 or 451-Town and report it.
Also report debris around the schools in our school district.
Lou Antoniello; Treasurer’s Report
As of 8/31/11 we have $2,286 with $30.56 given out for bills we now have
$2,256.33. Ed Wendol approved the report and was seconded by Frank Gibbons
Lou Antoniello: Open Space Committee
Town of Brookhaven is trying to purchase open space around the high school and Gentlemen’s
Driving Track. The is a nationally known trotter’s track owned by numeours
people. Town is trying to purchase it for open space.
Correspondence: We received civic dues from Dr. Jacobs from the Cosmetic
Surgery of New York, PC located at 4616 Nesconset Highway. Unfortunately,
membership in the Civic is open to residents only. We thanked him for his
interest in our organization.
Announcements: In accordance with ARTICLE 28-Nominations and Elections
section of our bylaws:
A. A nominating committee of no less than three (3) members nor more than five
(5) members in good standing att be appointed by the President at the January
meeting. This committee shall include at least one (1) member of the
B. Nominations of this committee shall be made at the regular February meeting
to fill all vacancies. At this time, nominations may also be made from the
floor. Nominations made in February shall be held in abeyance until the
March meeting when further nominations may be made from the floor
C. Elections will be held at the regular March meeting after nominations have
been officially closed.
D. Members of the Nominating Committee are not barred from running for
E. No Nominations shall be made without the permission of the nominee.
F. All elected officers will take office effective April 1st.
