Minutes of the Port Jefferson Station/Terryville Civic Association January 28, 2015


Present: Ed Garboski, Diane Guidice, Charlie McAteer, Joan Nickeson, Lou Antoniello, Howard Aarons, Frank Gibbons

December minutes read and accepted.

December executive board minutes read and accepted

Treasurer’s report:  The current balance is $1,895.82

  • Suspension of committee reports and regular business for presentation by Supervisor Ed Romaine.  Topics included

  • Lawrence Aviation Industries (LAI)

  • Heatherwood

  • RFQ’s and EIS and blight study wanted for PJS Commercial Hub Study area-.  Will assign someone from our community to work with the town to obtain grants for improvements to the hub study area. There is also need for Brookhaven to exercise control and adopt a form based code.


  • Blight to Light procedures

  • Recycling in Brookhaven

  • Solar, wind and geo-thermal energy in Brookhaven:

  • Creating an Alternate Power Committee and working with Suffolk County on solar array codes.

  •  Brookhaven Landfill and sources of income for the Town.

  • Questions from members-

    • Jerry Maxim,   regarding the Supervisor monitoring the impact of the Port Jeff Village master plan on the Comsewogue School District.

    • Diane Lenihan,   regarding improvements to the Town recycling facility that could create energy from waste.


  • Presentation by COPE Officer Todd Bradshaw – He and COPE officers William Gibaldi and Mike O’Neill are available to meet anyone for none-emergency issues.    COPE is coordinating events throughout the county to improve performance and relationships with residents.

  • COPE Surveys are available for residents- they can be mailed or dropped off at the precinct office.

    -     He spoke about the availability of home drug test kits available to residents.

  • Frank Gibbons,   regarding bad attitudes of desk sergeants at the precinct office


  • Presentation by Comsewogue PTA member, Sue Gagnon, on the Relay for Life event taking place on

    June 13, 2015 from 12 noon to 12 midnight at Comsewogue High School.  All are encouraged to join

    • Kick off informational event is February 2nd

News- Valerie Cartright will be attending an executive board meeting on February 11th

-     Diane had put out an email to the general membership and solicited help from members this -evening, to distribute informational material in various neighborhoods.

-     Ed Garboski and Rich Meyer commented on the County’s willingness to take the Lawrence Aviation (LAI) property.

-     Joan Nickeson and Virginia Gibbons spoke about an upcoming Historical Society event scheduled for March 8th.

-     Ed Garboski announced that Frank Gibbons is the new treasurer of ABCO.
