Port Jefferson Station/Terryville Civic Association Meeting Minutes May 27, 2015
Ex board members present: Ed Garboski, Diane Lenihan, Joan Nickeson, Lou Antoniello, Charlie McAteer, Frank Gibbons. Howard Aarons absent with notice
Presentation by Officer Gibaldi.
April general meeting minutes, read and approved with amendments.
Point of procedure; not reading minutes as correspondence.
Treasurer report: Balance as of April 30, 2015 is $2,395.82, approved and accepted.
Antique lighting for rte 112: costs for purchase and installation.
Development of Port Jefferson Village apartments: The impact of Brookhaven IDA tax relief to developers, on Comsewogue School district residents, and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) requirements for input from Superintendent Dr. Rella.
Ramifications of zoning changes: Heatherwood Golf Course, and potentially, the property near TD Bank, currently zoned as a small office park.
Presentation by Jennifer Dzvonar, president of North Shore Chamber of Commerce, on the importance of shopping locally. She also donated a $100 dollar gift certificate to Bass Electric and a bottle of wine for a raffle, for our meeting. Dina Simoes won the raffle.
Presentation: Charlie Kinder of Sound Symphony Orchestra- they will be performing June 7th, 2pm Comsewogue High School. Flyers given to Claudia Friselle and Charlie, for posting.
Kara Hahn is holding a community meeting at Comsewogue Library May 28th, 7pm
The Town of Brookhaven has a new Land Acquisition and Management Plan. A public meeting is being held at Town Hall May 28th, 4pm
Our school district is pursuing a Middle States Accreditation. Ed and Frank joined the committee of residents, parents and staff.
The Medford Civic is circulating a petition regarding video gaming terminals.
Assemblyman Steve Englebright will be at our June 24th civic association meeting. The executive board met with him last week, on various community issues, and a possible ‘Green-Stop’ in the ‘Commons’ park.
The ex board will meet with Sen. LaValle in June, on various community issues.
Beautification: Kudos to volunteers for work at parks, schools and various locations during the Brookhaven Clean Up, and Old Town Blooms/Emerald Magic for donations.
Transportation: No official report but rte 347 was closed at Rte 112 in order to re-open a section of Jayne Blvd. This held up traffic for many drivers for a very long time.
